5 Important Ways to Increase Your Boat’s Longevity

As for most Filipinos who have cars or planning to buy cars, maintenance is one of the most important factors before and after buying one. Considering this one is very essential because it is costly but one must still take note that it is a key to preserve a car’s value which promotes longevity and maybe it’s sales value. If this is a consideration on cars, it must be playing a big deciding factor when looking for motor boats for sale Philippines. So, the question here is: “What are the things that one should consider to promote a boat’s longevity?”

Here are the answers:

Washing Your Boat

Corrosion is the result of deterioration of metals from its environment. It is the one that commonly takes place on hulls of boats and in layman’s terms sometimes called as rust but harsher though.
So, how do you prevent corrosion?

Rust is inevitable for both fresh and salt water. One thing that separates both liquids though is the timeframe in which rusts develops. It is said that rust develops faster on salt water than on freshwater because the combination of moisture, oxygen and salt, especially sodium chloride, damages metal worse than rust does. So, what you should do is: “Wash your boat regularly.”

Washing your boat regularly (after every trip) is necessary to avoid corrosion of metals. Use fresh water to rinse the salt water and clean it thoroughly using a boat wash, car wash of detergent soap using a soft bristle brush.

Changing Engine Oil

Like Cars, boats also require some change oils every now and then. For cars, it is used to be changed every 5000 miles but in boats, it should be changed at least once a year. One reminder though, change oils cannot be done easily like car does. Boat maintenance shops are not too common like car automotive shops are. If you want to have a change oil, you can do it by yourself or thru a local dealer of a boat.

Checking the Propeller

Before any trip, it is a good habit to remove your propellers regularly and have it checked for fishing lines or any obstruction that wraps around the shaft. While holding the propeller itself you can check if it has dents and damages which may cause an excessive fuel consumption if not repaired.
